1223 IMPERIAL FAMILY: 1917 (30 Aug.) cover from Aberdeen with KGV 21/2d stamp, British censor label & Russian censor h.s. - addressed to C.S.Gibbs at the Grand Palace, Tsarskoe Seloe - Gibbs was tutor to the Tsarevitch & Grand-Duchesses and was imprisoned by the Bolsheviks in the Palace before being released late in 1918; two filing holes. 1230 1905 REVOLUTION: Lengthy (36pp) letter from a crewman on the S.S. 'Caucasian' in Batoum to his wife, added to between 10th-22nd December, 1905 with much detail about the local situation: ''in about a fortnight's time they expect a revolution here...last night there was between 20 or 30 men shot on the streets..the revolutionary gang have ordered a general strike. When I went on deck there was a party of the Revolutionaries bearing a white flag but armed to the teeth...they had come to demand all the firearms on board...there is an indescribable feeling of suppressed excitement. All the streets have been barricaded to stop the cavalry charges. The mob are all well armed, plenty of ammunition and dynamite bombs...'' A rare eye-witness account. Fine, no envelope. £70

1238 REVOLUTIONARY PERIOD - ANTI-TSARIST PROPAGANDA: 1918 Group of hand-painted postcards originating/sent within Hungary, depicting Nicholas as a wounded sheep being shot down, a gateway surmounted by a crowned skull (the death of the monarchy) liberating the people, Kerenski as a Jack-in-the-box in different guises and the Russian people contrasted as a bull (1913) and a weak old man (1914); all are used , two with poster labels advertising the 1917 Vienna Graphic Art Show or ''Gott verlässt keinen Deutschen!'', a third with ration coupons stuck on the reverse - fascinating, probably unique items.
