The cover has m/s "Per 2.22 train ex. Liverpool Street, Stat" and "To be handed to a post office express messenger at Colchester". A little soiled. 865 EARLY STAMPED RAILWAY PARCEL LETTER FROM NEWBURY TO IRELAND; Rare April 1856 env. (minor faults) addressed to Dublin endorsed "Immediate", with 98% complete "Great Western Railway/NEWBURY TO LONDON/Carriage Paid" label on reverse struck with London & Dublin c.d.s.'s and "Sussex Place" London R.H. mark. Very rare example of Railway compliance in speeding a letter's journey to the P.O. system in London, long before the 1891 Railway Letter Stamp service that did just that. Few examples known with a Postage Stamp. (With 1966 letter from Stitt-Dibden to George about this cover.) PHOTO - see plate no. 20 £150

(with blue crayon lines - presumably originally intended to be sent regd.) endorsed "Immediate Per 12.20 train carriage paid" with fine (tears of part of one flap being opened do not detract) complete pink G.W.R.
