327 DISINFECTED MAIL: 1840 EL in French addressed from Pera to the Chevalier de Colquhoun in London, from his son travelling in the Levant under Imperial Firman, in which he recounts at length the details of an attack and imprisonment he suffered at Baba; punctured by rastel holes but no postal markings. He mentions receiving letters through the English mails. Also an 1840 EL (faults) from a British army officer in Constantinople to London offering to send a Persian cat and asking his correspondent not to send mail through the Foreign Office but to his agent; French PO c.d.s. and transit with a very good strike of the Malta Lazarette h.s. on reverse and two disinfection slits.
