THE MARTIN WILLCOCKS RESEARCH COLLECTION OF BRITISH POSTAL HISTORY,c.1680-1850.
|
| In the GB Postal History sections of this catalogue are a further section of lots noted as being "[EX WILLCOCKS]" at the end of the descriptions. These consist of more material from the Research Collections of the late Martin Willcocks, R.D.P., the authority on British Postal History and the co-founder of the Willcocks/Jay County Catalogues of British Postal History. They come from the famous hoard of brown "shoe-boxes" that adorned Martin's study for some 40 years or more. Much of the material is not of "Exhibition" quality but many rare and unusual items are to be found in these lots and they are certainly fresh to the market, having formed the basis for many of Martin's definitive studies of local Postal History queries and problems for several decades, and helped him to commence the County Catalogue listings themselves. |
