178 POST OFFICE CORRESPONDENCE: Correspondence, with transcripts, concerning PO reforms/business during 1872, inc. an 8pp autograph letter ex Hawarden Castle from PM Gladstone to PMG Monsell and a correspondence between the latter and J. Tilley plus an acknowledgement on Downing Street notepaper; the main subject is cutting back the expenses of the PO through reforming some anomalies but also covers Letter Carriers' pay and new postal rates to Zanzibar - on the insistence of Sir Bartle Frere!
