    MISSENT MAIL - VERY RARE LONDON FOREIGN BRANCH SANSERIF "MISSENT/TO/ENGLAND" 3-LINE MARK ON INTERNAL (!) FRENCH COVER; Attractive and colourful 18 June 1872 EL from Lille to Loudon (in France) with French 15c Brown + 5c Green (2) tied by v. fine "2046" dotted diamonds with boxed & oval red "PD" marks but also having a very fine "MISSENT/TO/ENGLAND" (light fold) nicely placed at top left of the address. The cover was also endorsed "Try Londen, Holland" but this was crossed through and it was successfully delivered. We have only recorded one other example of this unusual international mail Missent mark; dated 1874, in the Millson Missent Mails collection [Cavendish Apr. 1996, lot 1278; realised £725]. [This 1872 example is ex Michael Jackson in Jan. 1986.]
